Building is more fun than buying (and cheaper!)

In this day and age it seems as though everything has to come from China and is so cheap that you wonder how they can even ship it for that kind of money. At DIYFiles.com we are less than happy about that development so we have gone back in time for you to when people actually made stuff themselves.

That has several advantages over buying something made abroad:

• It is lots of fun to make stuff
• You keep valuable skills alive
• The quality and the workmanship can be *lots* better than cheap imports
• Don't be surprised if it's cheaper
• You'll have something unique
• If you get good at executing one of these designs you'll have a cottage industry in no time
• Building stuff is healthy excercise

All plenty of reasons to go and clean up the shed and to start making things. Don't worry if you haven't got the skills, everybody learns by doing, the important thing is to keep a vision in your head of what the finished article should look like and then to work towards that goal.

This site owes a lot to 'vintagefarmplans.com', but unfortunately before I could make a deal with the original owner a domain squatter had taken it over. The previous owner could no longer afford the hosting and I thought it was a real pity that the site would go under, so I backed it all up as good as I could and now several years later the content is back up and better than ever, thanks to all the effort of Leon & Laura who have done an awesome job at making it all accessible via a browser instead of using pdfs.
